1/11/10 Park Loop Road-Hunters Brook Trail-Carriage Roads

A beautiful day-bright sunshine ( it did cloud up near the end), 20's, no wind. We started south on the Park Loop Road from near Jordan Pond and as there had been lots of snow mobile activity (we saw none today)it was very good footing and we were both pleased to be sauntering along with the sun sparkling off the snow. We reached the Hunters Brook Trail and took that. We had a predecessor so the footing was good, though a couple of times he led us off the trail (we quickly regained it)and some of the stream crossing were a bit dicey. As we turned away from the stream and toward the carriage road our friend left the blazed trail and headed off into the woods ( making it harder walking for us). We stayed with the trail to the carriage road and turned left on it. Soon our predecessor friend's tracks emerged from the woods and onto the carriage road and we again had good walking in his tracks. When we came to the stables area we cut through there and back to the loop road and back to the car. We then explored a little road on private property that I wasn't familiar with and took that by Jordan Pond and then back to the road and our car. Quite a nice hike 2 3/4 hours

  1. I thought that Maine winter weather would slow you down on the hiking but....not so much. Having the sun shining makes a big difference doesn't it?
