Finding Trail Descriptions

So as not to repeat myself excessively, I am reducing the amount of description of trails that have already been posted. Please use the search function ( upper left) to find older posts which have more detailed trail descriptions and pictures. You can also use this to find specific hikes either by trail or mountain.

11/4/11 Beech Mountain

Mix of sun and clouds- cold ( 40s) and very windy. If Kelley can take it so can I. We started up the West Ridge Trail from the parking area at the pumping station at Long Pond . This trail has some steep rocky sections ( this is not the worst) but Kelley managed them all without help.

Was going to skip the summit because of the wind but it just a short bit up so we went and the wind had died down for us.

A view from the summit

We went back down to the Beech Mountain Trail which has some very nice views.

That took us down to the parking area and across to the Valley trail for our return to Long Pond. This trail is very different from the previous and seems odd being so close. It is lusher with lots of mosses and lichens.

Kelley actually posed so I could get some scale on that boulder.

The trail also feels like you are down near sea level until you come to the part where you start dropping down

When we got to the pond we walked for about 30 minutes to a spot we like for lunch. Today it was in shade and very windy but we persevered and then returned to our car. 3 hours
