Finding Trail Descriptions

So as not to repeat myself excessively, I am reducing the amount of description of trails that have already been posted. 12/4/14 Sheepscot Headwaters

Sunny but windy ( gusts to 30 mph ) and cold with falling temps predicted- 32 when we started and 29 at the finish. Because of the wind we wanted woods for some protection form it.

We started up the Whitten Hill Trail to the Northern Headwaters Trail. There was more snow than on any of our recent hikes and ski tracks from a a few days ago. The crust atop the snow mostly supported Kelley but was also slippery and it took her a bit to get comfortable with the footing.

When we got on the Hemlock Hollow Trail we found no one had preceded us on that trail. The snow also seemed deeper and the hiking was more of a slog.

But the small streams were still flowing.

After we crossed Halldale Rd. there were some old ski tracks which made walking easier but they didn't last long  and it was back to slogging. There was no other prior use of the trails the rest of the hike.

Another stream for Kelley

Bog Brook Trail was not in good shape with lots of trees still needing to be removed ( it's also probably the rockiest section) so we got a good workout . When we got to the Whitten Hill Trail , Kelley knew where we were, turned onto it and got well ahead of me heading for the parking lot, and got there before me.

Being in the woods did help with the wind and it was a pretty day and a pretty good hike, 2  1/2 hours

    1. Thanks Sue- it wasn't the easiest we've done lately but you reach a point where finishing the loop isn't any longer than going back.

  2. When I was younger, I always wanted to see your part of the country but I never made it. I'm glad I can 'visit' via your camera :)
