Finding Trail Descriptions

So as not to repeat myself excessively, I am reducing the amount of description of trails that have already been posted. Please use the search function ( upper left) to find older posts which have more detailed trail descriptions and pictures. You can also use this to find specific hikes either by trail or mountain.

6/18/17 Newman Hill- Hinds

Overcast. mid sixties, with a bit of wind. Once more with both dogs.

In the parking lot

first chance at water - the small pond

Finally got them in the same frame

Neither dog wanted to take our usual route so we took the snowshoe trail until that was closed to protect ground nesting birds and then a trail we had not been on before

There were lots of wild flowers .

The trail looped back to the small pond so Kelley got a second chance.

Yellow Crown Vetch

Near where we parked there were a lot of beautiful lupine  with bees working them

Both dogs did well and we got in almost an hours walk. An hour seemed enough for Cooper's short legs.

6/17/17 Essex Woods

Gray rainy day after rain last night. I am dog sitting for a few days so Cooper went with us.

Cooper

There were lots of flowers but many were closed up - rain or just not open yet.?

Kelley following - she is a bit jealous of Cooper and they don't play.

Only Kelley likes the water

More flowers, buds,  and clover

Yesterday Kelley wouldn't get out of the car and Cooper walked a short way and turned back. Today they both did well and we got in almost an hour of walking without getting rained on.

6/15/17 Harbor Brook

Beautiful morning - mostly sunny and mid 60's Decided to try this trail that Kelley likes because of the water.

First things first

  A pretty section of trail

They are rerouting the trail because of serious erosion and moving it farther from the stream but you can still get to the old trail with more water options for Kelley

We crossed the stream onto a new trail and followed it until we reached these steps which Kelley did not want to climb. We turned back.

Leading the way on some of the new bog bridges.

thinking about going farther downstream

Very few flowers today - too much shade - so I had to settle for fungi

Having a good shake

Last chance at the water

This turned out to be a good hike - an hour and a half . Kelley did better than she has in a long time, taking the lead at times and showing no reluctance other than climbing those steps. She was in the water many times and really seemed to enjoy it.

6/14/17 City Forest

After 3 days when it reached 90 it was great to have temps in th 60's. We just went to the nearby forest hoping the pond would entice Kelley

And it did

Water lilies not yet in bloom but we could see buds

It was fairly windy so most pictures of flowers and insects ended up blurred.

A couple that were OK

Buttercup

and yellow crown vetch

Not a long walk but we got a little exercise and Kelley got the pond.

Another reflection

Last chance at the water

More wildflowers

We got out early before it got to 90 degrees and it was pleasant. Kelley was slow but did OK and  we got in a nice hour in very pleasant surroundings
